Magical Cogden

IMG_1437

Even though I live in one of the most beautiful places in the country, at times it can feel a little claustraphobic and the desire to ‘escape’ within my immediate periphery seeps in. Sometimes a jaunt around the back streets of Bridport can do the trick but if I want to properly ‘escape’ there is no finer place than Cogden Beach. I have mentioned this amazing spot in the past but it felt like a reminder was required… Read more

Niall Jacobson

This week was a sad week yet one that highlighted the value of beauty. Not beauty in its cosmetic form, but beauty in terms of meaning and purpose.

Rest in peace Niall, you will be missed by many, your work will remain a beautiful epilogue of a live so very well lived…

21.4.16- Sometimes in life, something touches you unexpectedly. You take a moment out of the whirlwind of life and stop to notice something beautiful that resonates with you deeply.

Niall Jacobson’s work does just that.

Simplicity and its best: Texture, form and organic matter all combine to allude to a sense of place and that place is his beloved Eype and the stunning, ever-evolving Jurassic Coast

The film below shares his story, his home and his artistic process. Beautiful and evocative.

Bravo Niall.

See more of Niall’s work here.

The Old Dairy Kitchen

Plating upThe thing that prompts me to get motivated to write my blog is often great food, but my kind of great food these days comes with an added level of magic to allow it to register in my catalogue of moments of pleasure.

That magic is meaning. Unless something has meaning and authenticity its value is reduced. Here comes the hippie speech. For many, I believe, we are disillusioned by the glitz and money grabbing machines of yesteryear. If there is passion behind it and somebody is living the dream, we want to be part of it. Read more

Frank & Beans Please!

Screen Shot 2016-06-21 at 06.43.40

The start of the weekend and our Friday release took us on a post school trip to the most delicious gelateria, Frank & Beans in Lyme Regis. Excitement all round at the impending glacial hit and we even managed to lure hard toiling J away from his screen to join us for our treat and a stroll along the seafront. Quite the ‘Little England’ 1952 picturesque scene. Read more

The Literary Salon

Kathrens Rare Knitwear

NiccaWindow

I have been terribly remiss with this blog for the last few months. Days have been swallowed up by a myriad of activities which seem to now hold no memory in my mind. They can’t have been as important as they seemed at the time. A more pressing matter is to share the secret that is Kathrens Rare Knitwear.

This shop sells not just knitwear; the rare translates as art. Wearable art.  Read more

Jailhouse Cafe, Portland

My recent fascination with prisons has been fuelled by a brush with the feds on the way back from the big smoke. They were playing the whole good cop, bad cop scenario and I even got my rights read to me, Read more

Crab House Cafe

Tried to come to the Crab House Cafe before but I was so badly organised ie. it was totally booked and for some strange reason I seem to think that no booking would be required. But it is soooo good that booking is of course essential. Read more
