The thing that prompts me to get motivated to write my blog is often great food, but my kind of great food these days comes with an added level of magic to allow it to register in my catalogue of moments of pleasure.
That magic is meaning. Unless something has meaning and authenticity its value is reduced. Here comes the hippie speech. For many, I believe, we are disillusioned by the glitz and money grabbing machines of yesteryear. If there is passion behind it and somebody is living the dream, we want to be part of it. Read more
The sadly departed Bridfish has been bought and rebranded as the Chesil Smokery and a great job they have done on it. Clever packaging and a clean new logo shows off the fantastic product inside. They will smoke anything , the smoked mackerel is so delicious and like a different fish to the supermarket kind but my favourite is the smoked kippers. Get down there or order online for last minute Christmas fare. Read more

Hix baking session is a one off but is part of many brilliant events that go on at Hix Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis. Beaminster square in the centre of the town is picture perfect. The whole area has a rather well heeled feel to it with golden Dorset stone buildings and discreet signage. What it does have is a fantastic veg shop which stocks mainly local veg, all delicious, the bulk of which comes from their own small holding. Hence the produce is always spankingly fresh and kept at prices that compete with the supermarket. This is the kind of veg store that every town should have. A few doors down is a great butchers with organic and free range meat and a good selection of cheese. The ethically minded Co-op has a discreet store on the corner so you can stock up without having to go far or succumb to the dreaded supermarket.

Great packaging, great product plus Clipper care about their workers and the environment, so it ticks a lot of boxes. Based in Beaminster its not strictly Jurassic Coast but it is definitely My Jurassic Coast and their presence locally is big, as it should be.
Try the lemon and ginger infusion, its delicious…
