Frank & Beans Please!

Screen Shot 2016-06-21 at 06.43.40

The start of the weekend and our Friday release took us on a post school trip to the most delicious gelateria, Frank & Beans in Lyme Regis. Excitement all round at the impending glacial hit and we even managed to lure hard toiling J away from his screen to join us for our treat and a stroll along the seafront. Quite the ‘Little England’ 1952 picturesque scene. Read more

Tropical Lyme in February

Not sure I can really write about Lyme Regis seafront again. It’s not interesting to most of you am sure, but it makes me very happy indeed does that view. So sorry, here we go. More Lyme. The calm after the storm. Read more

Electric Bike Tours – Marshwood Trails

I used to love cycling but my arrival to the Jurassic Coast put a hold on that, the extremely hilly landscape seems suited mainly to the Bradley Wiggins types. I need to man up. Or do I? Marshwood Trails vows to get you back in the saddle. Read more

The Garden House Studio – added luxury

New towels in The Studio! Now that”s quite some news (for a B and B owner who must get out more)…it does include new bathrobes and a general interior facelift including some rather lovely new artwork. But worryingly I seem to be most excited about the towels. Read more

The Garden House Studio, Uplyme

The good thing about lots of rain at this time of year is that the garden (not the sensitive vegetables) is very happy and holiday den The Studio is looking especially lush. Amazing alliums and the tallest thistle in town (I bet)…

  • up to date availability and prices on The Garden House Studio
  • 3 night up to 7 night stays throughout the summer
  • there is a huge awning so you can sit out in the rain!

Crazy Golf and Table Tennis, Lister Gardens, Lyme Regis

Call me crazy but I love a bit of mini golf…my childhood holiday memories revolve around one particular course which had the most fantastic set up with windmills, pools and curving tunnels.  The Lyme course is more tasteful, as it would be, but still a lot of fun and has the most stunning location up in the Gardens above the seafront. With Hix on one side and the view of the Golden Cap on the other it kind of puts crazy golf into its own gentrified league. Follow it up with a quick game of ping pong at the adjacent tables (I know its really called table tennis but I couldn’t resist the jibe at my husband, an avid and pedantic player). You will have worked up a good appetite for tea and homemade crumpets at Hix.

  • open 7 days April-November
  • Winter months open weekends only
  • kids size clubs available
  • bring your own table tennis bats and balls

The Garden House Studio, Uplyme

Whats not to like – white walls, timber, mid century furniture, vintage trinkets, lots of art & design books plus modern luxury facilities.

This self catering holiday Studio is set in tranquility in the grounds of my home so of course I think its great, in every way. It is compact with lots of attention to detail and a “try and buy” policy so everything, including the sofa, is for sale. I secretly hope nobody buys the sofa as it was a bugger to find one that fits.

Lyme Regis is a picturesque 30 min walk along the river or a 2 min drive.

  • Has its own large private deck.
  • Short breaks available all year.
  • Breakfast hamper provided.

Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis

In my eyes, the most beautiful beach in Lyme Regis and on a sunny day, one gets a (brief) feeling of being in California. Its never that busy and now the sand has migrated its way from the sandy beach further East, much more consumer friendly. The scattering of chalets and huts that cling to the base of the cliff always bring on property envy. We braved a choppy fishing trip and enjoyed an early evening, freshly caught mackerel barbeque here.

  • Park directly on the beach in the Winter months.
  • Dogs allowed all year.
  • Rent one of the chalets right on the beach, www.chaletonthebeach.com is good.
  • Fires or barbeques allowed all year.
