Hix Townhouse

Got a sneaky viewing of the new Hix Townhouse in Lyme Regis. It is so very Mark Hix in style; simple, stylish and eclectic with touches of wry humour. 8 rooms all styled differently, from the Hunting Room to the Garden Room to the quirky Mad Hatters Room. The interior styling was by Mark himself, from vintage finds, something he loves to do. Read more

Barley Day, Trill Farm, Musbury

Barley is officially my new superfood. Just come back from a morning of tasting mouthwatering barley recipes cooked by Daphne Lambert of Greencuisine at Trill Farm. An age old grain; so delicious and so nutritious, its health benefits are huge plus its really low in gluten. Makes amazing risotto and the flour is fab in cakes and biscuits. Had to be visibly restrained by my more sensible friend not to buy a 25kg sack of the flour and go into barley baking production. Tempting though.

  • Trill shop is open by appointment and on open days.
  • look out for the Trill Summer Festival coming up.

Trill Farm, Musbury

We are on a well deserved day out, myself, K and T. The aim of the day is to get some new ideas on living with food allergies and intolerances from the nutritional guru Daphne Lambert of Greencuisine. Daphne is running courses from stunningly located Trill Farm for a year whilst she writes a cookery book. Trill is an amazing charitable set up, run by Romy Fraser  (ex Neals Yard founder), who promote  sustainable healthy living and eating. Everything is done with great passion and rustic eco style. They also have great branding; love the brightly coloured simple imagery.

Highlight of the day is a vitamin packed organic lunch of quinoa salad and rye sourdough followed by a lemon and rosewater almond cake. A stroll through the sunlit woods to view the outdoor yoga platform refreshes for another stint in the kitchen in the afternoon. K, T and I get very excited about dehydrating veg (great when you have a glut and so delicious) and a little overwhelmed at the concept of making your own hemp milk. I am sticking to my Rice Dream.

We leave with some great new tips which we resolve to stick to. For now, at least.

  • Courses run all year and there is a fab Summer Festival in July.
  • Shop and e shop selling products from the farm.

Davy’s Locker Fish Shop, Bridport

On an industrial estate in Bridport is the best fish shop in the area – the freshest fish at wholesale prices for whatever quantity you buy.

There is no counter, just enter the chiller with one of the rugged fishermen (claustraphobic types stay at the doorway). Its all very jolly and many fish jokes exchanged – all in all, a great plaice.
