Seatown Beach

A tucked away beach to the West of Bridport. There is just a pub, a campsite, a car park and stunning views. Walk along the cliffs to Golden Cap, the highest point  in Dorset, or relax in peace on the beach. My kids love digging away at the hidden streams under the shingle meandering to the sea. Eat simply at the Anchor Inn www.theanchorinnseatown.co.uk and enjoy the vista from its beachfront tables; or fire up a beach barbeque.

  • Good fossiling and fishing beach
  • Beach signed off the A35 in Chideock
  • Perfect escape on high days and holidays
  • Great food in Chideock from ex River Cottage chef at The George Inn, thegeorgeinnchideock.co.uk

The best ever local beach, we have found, for fossils, especially at the far right of the beach, just as the tide has turned and is going out. Found great large ammonites here and tons of belemnites (pointed squid tentacles that look like mini stone bullets).

Great tip and I suppose it being a quieter beach there will be better fossiling finds.
